In order to be able to participate in racing events with their vehicles, the French company Salmson built the lightweight model Grand Sport with the 1086 cc four-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts. With its 40 HP, the model was very successful in numerous automobile races. The chassis was very advanced for that time and was constantly evolving. Salmson scored ten world records between 1921 and 1928 and achieved more than 500 international race victories over the same period. 1929, the racing department was closed.
