Fans compare the 25th edition of the Tour Auto optic with a particularly good wine, you´ll never forget. 237 competitors started at the Grand Palais in Paris and on the Champs-Élysées for the official launch, to change with timing a certain time to the Château de Courances . 100,000 spectators watched this spectacle.
The big classic car tour in the south of the French Republic is a tribute to the “ Tour de France Automobile“, held in 1986 for the last time. This is also the reason, why to participate only models are approved, which were build between 1951 and 1973 and are neither changed on the motor nor the body.
2000 kilometres in five days – this is a demanding task, if it is peppered with eleven time trials on closed roads and rides on race tracks such as Dijon, Bresse, Lédenon and Paul Ricard.
Over a newly selected route with the stopover towns Beaune, Lyon, Marseille and Valance, the group of the high-profile classic cars rolled in the direction of Cannes. The crew wore the victory finally Jean-Pierre Lajournade and Christophe Bouchet in their Jaguar E-type of them.
The nightly special tests were spicy. On the last stage, the vintage teams started in the early hours of the morning in Marseille, to conquer the See-Alps with some curvy roads. Pure adventure on 8.4 km – sometimes hard to concentrate on the the breathtaking scenic views during the 8.4 kilometre long route. Andrew Smith and James Cottingham in the Ford GT40 took the victory of this stage. They beat even the big favorites Jean-Pierre Lajournade in the E-type and Ludovic Caron in the Shelby Cobra with 11 and 16 seconds.
Big presence for the participants at the evening in Cannes. Parked on the famous Croisette between the sea and the Nobel hotels the teams were allowed to celebrate their victory.
