Cruisin’ the coast

Hard to believe, but the stunning forecast of the organizer of the twentieth annual Cruisin’ the coast run, that approximately 8000 vehicles will participate in this year’s drive event, has come true. The route followed along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico from Ocean Springs to Bay St. Louis.

On the road, the vehicles passed many large and small towns along the coast. In Biloxi / Missisippi even a spare parts and automobile market was held in the large Coloseum. On the large parking lot outside the Coloseum, a course was held for the participants of the Cruisin’ the coast event.

One week-long the Gulf coast is in a exeptional state. But many of the vintage car owners with their chrome jewels arrived already before the event, and many remain even after the event in the area. Lovers of US classic cars had their fun. Traditional early original hot rods from the 1940s to the custom and muscle cars of younger times, joined this event. Ford Mustangs, Corvettes, Doges, Pontiacs but also the less often seen Studebaker and Packard and Willys were to marvel at these days. Lined up on the countless parking lots or boulevards along the coast.

The special on the approximately 53 kilometers long Highway 90 are the passages through the small towns along the route, such as Long Beach, Gulfport and Pass Christian, but also the many smaller places, celebrated the convoys of historic vehicles. In each city, there was at least a music combo and an entertainment mile where the driver could stop. Countless volunteers made sure that the traffic ran fluently through the villages.

Who now feels like visiting the 2017 the Cruisin’ coast run from 1. to 8. October should take the following recommendation: attach a few days after the event, because in this period several smaller events take place and to the coast becomes a party mile.
